Bella

Bella

It has been quite a week.

Bella had emergency surgery on Tuesday. She wasn’t herself Monday night and by Tuesday morning we knew something was wrong. She has a history of bowel obstruction, so we are pretty vigilant when she isn’t acting right.

Tuesday afternoon she had surgery to remove a large hairball. Wednesday afternoon she came home.

She seemed to be doing okay. But we had an awful time with the oral antibiotics. The old joke about giving a cat a pill is no joke. We certainly weren’t laughing after repeated attempts. She also didn’t care for wet food recommended after surgery.

Back to the Vet

The vet asked us to bring Bella back in after learning she wasn’t eating. She had another overnight stay on Thursday for fluids and attempts to get her to eat. She refused to eat wet food there as well and they ended up giving her dry kibble.

Bailey

Then there is this girl; also known as Bella’s sister, Bailey.

Bailey is always hostile towards Bella when she returns from the vet. I know the thought is the scent of the vet on another cat confuses them. Unfortunately, it adds another challenge for Bella when her sister is hissing and growling at her.

Bella and Bailey aren’t super affectionate towards each other in normal times. It’s more like they peacefully coexist. Hopefully peace returns soon.

So far, so good

Yesterday we brought Bella back home. Within minutes, she was eating. She is super cuddly and can’t get enough attention and love. We are going to keep her confined to the basement for the time being as she gets reacclimated to home. Once she is eating, drinking, and using the litter box in satisfactory amounts we will attempt reintroduction to Bailey.

Grateful for our wonderful veterinarian office. They have literally saved Bella several times.

I am hopeful her recovery goes smoothly from here. It has been stressful for all of us. Obviously, we will be doubling down on hairball prevention.

It’s wonderful to have her home. We have been getting lots of cuddles and head bonks. 🙂
