Happy Thanksgiving

I am not always big on traditions, but I love a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I see a lot of comments about how it’s bland, boring, and no one really likes it.

Forget that noise, I love it, and I do it up. I made cranberry sauce yesterday, and I will be making my pumpkin pie later tonight. We are roasting a whole turkey to enjoy with mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, and sweet potato casserole. I may or may not make bread or buns.

As I think back, we have forgone the traditional meal if the Vikings played on Thanksgiving. One year, I made pumpkin pancakes for breakfast and then pizza to watch the game. Lots of football games to watch this year, of course, but the Vikings aren’t playing.

On that subject, how is week 13 of the NFL season?? It seems like the season just started.

Thanksgiving always brings up feelings of gratitude. During the pandemic, when everything was tough, I started a gratitude practice. In my daily journal, I would mention one thing for which I was grateful. It could be big or small. Some days it was easy, other days it took some imagination to come up with a new reason to be grateful. I have since stopped, as I felt I had made my point to myself, and it was starting to feel forced. But it did help me remember I always have something to feel thankful for.

Times are still tough and weird. I can be grateful for many things: my beloved hubby, adorable kitties, lovely home, and my good health all come to mind.

Enjoy the holiday, whatever it is for you.
