Baked Cheesy Turkey Tortellini

Baked cheesy turkey tortellini is comfort in a casserole dish. Ground turkey in marinara sauce covers cheesy tortellini. Sprinkle with cheese and bake until hot and gooey. It’s a dream.

My note on this recipe mentioned it is a great choice for date night. It’s so easy to make and stress-free as you simply can’t mess it up. Boiling pasta, chopping onions, and stirring ingredients together is as hard as it gets. While the dish bakes, we like to open a bottle of wine and enjoy a glass before dinner.

Ingredients

Cheese Tortellini: You can use refrigerated or shelf-stable tortellini. We buy these at ALDI.

Olive Oil: Used to sauté the onion and ground turkey.

Onion: We always have red onions available so that is what I use. White and yellow onions are also a great choice. Mushrooms would also be delicious!

Ground Turkey: I usually use either 85 or 90% lean ground turkey. Ground chicken would also work.

Marinara Sauce: I shared this link recently with all the great jarred marinara sauce. Use your favorite. 🙂

Mozzarella Cheese: Melty, stretchy mozzarella cheese is the crowning glory.

Instructions

Start by boiling the water to cook the tortellini. Chop your onion and add to a large skillet with olive oil. Add the ground turkey once the onion has started to soften. Break up the turkey into small bite-sized pieces to distribute through the dish.

Once the ground turkey is cooked through, stir in the marinara sauce. Add the tortellini to the boiling pasta water and cook according to package instructions. Refrigerated pasta takes 3-4 minutes and shelf-stable pasta takes 8-10 minutes.

Drain the pasta once tender. Add the pasta to the skillet and stir to combine the marinara sauce. Spoon into a casserole dish and sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese. Bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and starting to brown on top.

I like to serve baked cheesy turkey tortellini with a side vegetable like Brussels sprouts or broccoli.

Try this ravioli dish for another great date-night dinner at home.
