Hot Buttered Bourbon

Hot buttered bourbon is cozy, warming, and everything I want in a winter cocktail.

Hot-buttered rum is a classic. We haven’t kept rum around for years, but we currently have both bourbon and Fireball cinnamon whiskey. Both bourbon and whiskey are perfect with this drink’s butter, brown sugar, and fragrant spices. Unlike many cocktails, this is made with ingredients I always have on hand, which is definitely another plus for me.

This drink reminds me of a boozy pumpkin spice latte. They share the same spices and give me all the warm, cozy vibes I crave during the chilly months of the year. Of course, if you love pumpkin, try this martini!

Ingredients

Butter: Melted butter adds a rich, velvety texture to the drink.

Brown Sugar: Adds warmth and sweetness to the drink.

Molasses: Adds a nice depth of flavor.

Cinnamon, Ground Nutmeg, and Ground Cloves: Makes the drink taste and smell wonderful.

Bourbon or Whiskey: Use whatever brand you have on hand.

Water: Hot water provides the base of the drink.

Instructions

The ingredients for the hot buttered bourbon can be prepped ahead of time. When your cocktail hour rolls around, you can be enjoying your drink in minutes.

Combine the butter, brown sugar, molasses, and spices. The recipe lists enough for two drinks, but you can definitely double or triple the ingredients as desired. Store the mixture in the refrigerator until you are ready to create your drink.

Add half the ingredients, which is approximately a rounded tablespoon, to your favorite mug and add bourbon. Pour in boiling water and stir as the water melts the butter.

You will see a layer form on top of the drink. No worries, that is the melted butter. It’s delicious. 🙂

The next time you are craving a warm, cozy cocktail, try hot buttered bourbon!
