Happy Sunday!
My flowers and vegetable plants are doing so well this year! This purple sun pot on the back deck has become the favorite of my flower arrangements. I posted a photo shortly after the pot was planted, and I love how the flowers have grown and filled out.
My first ripe tomatoes of the season. These little guys came from my 4th of July tomato plant. It didn’t quite make the July 4 promise that the name seems to insinuate. But this is about the earliest in the year I have harvested fresh tomatoes from my garden.
The tomatoes are small but, as garden tomatoes usually do, taste amazing. What a treat in my salads this past week.
What caught my eye this week
Eliminating food waste, or at least our personal contribution to the problem, has been a high priority for me. Planning meals has gone a long way to using our perishable foods while they are fresh and delicious. Also, those expiration dates are guidelines; not a magic throw-that-food-out date.
Emmy nominations! We both enjoyed Ted Lasso, The Mandalorian, Mare of Easttown, WandaVision, Hamilton, and The Queen’s Gambit. I also liked The Undoing and, as always, This is Us. It was a strong year for TV, looking through this impressive list. The timing couldn’t have been better, since we were all home anyway.
Random bits of advice to save your life. A positive pregnancy test can equal testicular cancer. Who knew??
Today is National Ice Cream Day! A list of most popular flavors by state. Moose Tracks wins Minnesota with vanilla ice cream, peanut butter cups, and fudge. Me, I like most any ice cream: vanilla bean, chocolate, anything with peanut butter and caramel. It is pretty hard to go wrong!
Have a wonderful weekend!
