Hot chocolate peppermint coffee combines two cozy drinks into one!
This idea came when I brainstormed an easy way to make a peppermint mocha at home. Black coffee is my everyday caffeinated beverage and I treat myself to a homemade latte creation once a week on Sunday mornings. Check out this post for some ideas on homemade lattes.
I always have at least a few packets of hot chocolate mix in my pantry. A cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter afternoon is hard to beat. After a quick internet search, I realized I was far from the first to try this super simple chocolate mocha. Coffee and chocolate are terrific together, so why not combine the two? This time of year, adding a little peppermint extract is a no-brainer. The only thing better than a mocha latte is a peppermint mocha latte!
Elements
Strong Brewed Coffee: To ensure the coffee flavor comes through, add some extra coffee grounds, so the finished product produces a bold coffee flavor. If you have an espresso machine, by all means, use it!
Milk: I always use almond milk, but any kind will work. Sometimes, I add a splash of half and half for a little added richness.
Chocolate coffee syrup: I keep a variety of sugar-free coffee syrups for my homemade lattes. Torani has a huge selection.
Dry Hot Chocolate Mix Single Packet: Any variety you have in your pantry with work. These days you can find a huge variety of hot chocolate packets, some with flavors like mint or hazelnut. Yum!
Peppermint Extract: Just a tiny drop of peppermint extract is needed.
Marshmallows: Marshmallows are a must with hot chocolate!
Preparation
Start by making coffee. While your coffee brews, add milk and coffee syrup to a measuring cup. Microwave until very hot and started to bubble up. Be sure to keep an eye on things as the hot milk can boil over. We don’t want a mess in our microwave!
Add the hot chocolate mix to a large mug. Stir in the hot milk until the dry mix is completely incorporated. Add the coffee and a drop of peppermint extract. Finally, add lots of marshmallows. Sip and enjoy your delicious mug of hot chocolate peppermint coffee!
