Tilapia fillets marinated with lime and honey then pan fried in a light flour coating to create some color and crunch. Ridiculously easy, lots of flavor and comes together in a flash. Pair with some veggies and you have a light, healthy and delicious dinner!
Fish and potatoes just go together. We all know of fish and chips for a reason. Roasted baby potatoes and green beans make a nice accompaniment for the tilapia.
I love the flavor the lime and honey give the tilapia. Lime just brightens up any dish and then a touch of sweetness with the honey.
Any firm, white fish would work well for this recipe. My father-in-law was kind enough to gift us some walleye he caught this summer. Walleye is scrumptious is any recipe.
Hubby wants tartar sauce any time we have fish. We have fish maybe….3ish times a month. Nobody wants a big jar of store bought tartar sauce going bad in the refrigerator. The solution? Throw together this easy, three-ingredient tartar sauce.
1-2 Tbsp of mayonnaise –
1 tsp prepared spicy brown mustad
1 tsp pickle relish or finely diced dill pickle
Stir together. Serve with fish. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice would also be nice if your prepared fish didn’t have a citrus element.
Honey Lime Tilapia
Ingredients
Fish and Marinade:
- 2 tilapia fillets
- 1 Tbsp lime juice (from 1 small lime)
- Zest of 1 lime
- 1 clove garlic, finely minced
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 1 tablespoons honey
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- sprinkle of red pepper flakes
Coating and Cooking:
- ¼ cup all purpose or whole wheat flour
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1-2 Tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Zest the lime then squeeze the lime. Mince garlic Add to a bowl and whisk along with olive oil, honey, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Place the tilapia in ziploc bag and pour the marinade on top of the fish. Place in the refrigerator for at least one hour but no more than four hours. Turn the bag and swish around the marinade a few times to assure the whole fish gets flavored with the marinade.
- Combine flour, salt and pepper on a small plate. Heat the olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Swirl the oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
- Dredge each tilapia fillet in the flour, coating both sides lightly. Cook the fillets for about 4 – 5 minutes per side without moving the fish while it cooks on each side; this will ensure a more even browning. Cook time will depend on the thickness of the filets.
- Serve immediately.
