Rubbed with spices and then smothered with barbeque sauce, this BBQ glazed chicken is quick, easy, and delicious.
Summer always makes me hungry for chicken glazed with barbeque sauce. We love it on the outdoor grill, but the weather has to cooperate. This recipe works anytime. It is ready in under 30 minutes and perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Chicken Breast: I use one large chicken breast sliced in half for the two of us.
Chili Powder: Chili powder is one of the favorite spices. I love the smoky, slightly spicy flavor it provides to so many of our recipes.
Paprika: Adds flavor and color to the chicken.
Salt & Black Pepper: Enhances the flavor of the chicken.
Garlic Powder: I love garlic with chicken. Fresh garlic would likely burn in this recipe so garlic powder is a great way to add that great flavor.
Butter & Olive Oil: Butter and olive oil are used together to cook the chicken perfectly. The butter makes it tender and flavorful and the olive oil gives the meat a nice sear.
BBQ Sauce: Your favorite barbeque sauce is the finishing touch for the chicken. We are big fans of the honey chipotle flavor from Sweet Baby Ray’s.
Instructions
Slice the chicken breast in half length-wise to create two pieces. You will want to try to get them about the same size, so they cook at the same rate.
Combine the spice ingredients and rub all over the chicken.
Heat the butter and olive oil in a skillet. I typically use a steel skillet for this recipe. Swirl to combine the oil and butter, then add the chicken.
Allow the chicken to sit on the first side until well browned. If you can’t easily flip the chicken, wait a few minutes. When the chicken is browned and seared, it will loosen and flip easily.
Once the chicken is flipped, allow it to cook on the other side. Brush the first side with your barbeque sauce. I like to flip and sauce both sides of the chicken. When the chicken is done and glazed with sauce, plate, and serve.
I like to serve BBQ glazed chicken with potatoes and a green vegetable. These parmesan garlic potatoes and sautéed Brussels sprouts were perfect!
