It was tomatoes, herbs, and flowers week.
For years, I did petunias in the front of the house. The plants get morning sun, then more shade as the day goes on. Last year, I found some nice geraniums and decided to try something new. They did beautifully. I love the color of the geraniums I found this year. Deep pink, almost purple-ish. I can’t say that I have never seen any quite this color. There weren’t too many left, so I am glad I got them!
I learned my lesson on picking flowers that were too dark for the front of the house. One year, I selected purple petunia as the main flower in the pots. They are so pretty close up, but they don’t show up at a distance. From a distance, it just looked like a pot of greenery.
Otherwise, I did a shade pot in the entryway. That area gets deep shade, so sometimes I have to adjust the placement so the plants will do well. I did my usual purple petunias on the back deck. Now I am just excited for everything to be established and growing.
I always do the same herbs: basil, rosemary, thyme, and parsley. They tend to be easy to grow, and I use them frequently when I cook. Pasta like caprese salad is so good with fresh basil. Rosemary and thyme are perfect with chicken.
It was the first time I ever remember ending up with all my pots planted and an empty bag of potting soil. This is a rare event. I typically need to wait to pot at least one plant due to running out of potting soil.
Enjoy your weekend.
