Weekend Randoms 12/6/2025

Happy weekend.

The Thanksgiving leftovers were put to good use. I substituted roasted turkey to make a wonderful version of chicken & dumplings. Next, I used the remaining meat and the carcass to make soup.

I bought a new pair of Apple AirPods on Black Friday special. My current pair is about seven years old and still working great. I will probably save them for use on the treadmill and such. I use AirPods all the time to listen to podcasts. More and more, I like to use them around the house when I am cooking.

The latest novel by Patricia Cornwell went on sale on Cyber Monday and I grabbed it. I am about halfway through Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It’s not my favorite of her books, but it’s really good.

I believe in science and believe in the overwhelming benefits of vaccines. Shingles is an often painful viral infection preventable with a vaccine. This research showing that it may also help slow or prevent dementia is exciting.

Sleep

Another sleep hack; this is called Evil Time. My cats can get a major case of the zoomies, and then be crashed out sleeping minutes later. Maybe they are on to something.

I swear sleep becomes so complicated as you get older. No longer is it a case of brushing my teeth, washing my face, and falling into bed. First I like to stretch to keep my body feeling good. Then it’s a whole routine of dental and skin care. Get into bed and read on my Kindle until I am good and tired.

At some point, it’s finally time to try to sleep. I wear a dental guard to protect my teeth and an eye mask so the room is as dark as possible. And, of course, heavy duty hand cream, especially in the winter. Finally the pillows have to be just right.

Hubby has a whole list of bedtime routines too. It’s a whole thing!

Have a restful weekend.
