Weekend Randoms 4/11/2026

Happy weekend.

I am in the grocery store several times a week. Fresh produce is always a stop on the trip. Despite this, I just had my first Asian pear, also known as an apple pear. I have seen them before. They look cute in their foam protective mesh to keep them from bruising. Asian pears are sweet and mild-tasting. A cross between an apple and a pear, as the name would suggest. I didn’t even throw away the protective mesh. One of my everyday Gala apples is nestled into it.

No time like the present to try new things. This weekend, I will be buying another new-to-me item in the produce section. Just for something fun.

Fun is important, don’t you think? For anyone paying attention, life is awfully serious these days. It’s pretty easy to give up hope in this exhausting American reality.

I will never advocate not paying attention to world affairs. We can’t bury our heads in the sand. But letting what we cannot control destroy us doesn’t solve anything. That is why I think enjoying things like a new fruit variety, squirrels in my backyard, and other sweet, simple pleasures are important too.

Hubby and I went out for breakfast this past week. My salmon for breakfast streak continued. This time it was a salmon Benedict, and it was delicious. Now, this is something I will probably never make for myself. I have never found a foolproof way of poaching an egg, for one thing. But that is the fun of dining out.

Allergy season is hitting hard and fast. I deal with year-round allergies, but they get worse every spring. But it certainly doesn’t diminish my excitement for spring.

Have a fun weekend.
