Weekend Randoms 9/5/2026

Happy weekend.

After taking a year off, we went to the Minnesota State Fair. As planned, we watched the weather for a nice day. We weren’t the only ones. Between the gorgeous day and the fact that school hadn’t started, it was the largest attendance day thus far. I suppose this weekend or Labor Day could overtake it, but I would be surprised.

We did finally get to see the horse barn after finding it closed a couple of times. Lots of draft horses and some donkeys like the cutie above. Despite the crowd, I did manage to see everything I intended, but what a circus.

Ina is doing a podcast. I already subscribed as I love everything she does. Side note: what is up with every podcast having a video element? I listen to podcasts; I don’t watch.

The world lost two impressive women, Dolly Parton and Gloria Steinem.

It’s been just a few years since I was assigned a book to read in school. Certainly, in the sense of a fictional book for pleasure, not a textbook. I think of Charlotte’s Web when I think of childhood books. It came to mind this week when I didn’t have the heart to destroy a spider web or hurt a spider weaving her web on the deck. Yup, that’s me.

I am still a big fan of the new rice cooker. We discovered by accident a while ago that letting the rice sit before serving has a benefit. It fluffs up and comes out of the container much more easily.

Have a great weekend.
