Weekend Randoms 5/31/2025

Happy weekend.

As this post goes live, I am likely already preparing for our evening. We are having grilled chicken, potato salad, and a broccoli salad, which I will likely share soon. Dessert will be a double batch of my blueberry cobbler. I had considered a rhubarb strawberry pie, and I just got my hands on some rhubarb.

Since last Saturday, I have been to nearly every garden center in town. I usually like to buy from different places. The tomatoes, mini pepper plant, herbs, and flowers all look good so far.

Have jalapeños become less spicy? I honestly haven’t noticed this. Jalapeños are certainly a milder pepper than serranos and habaneros, but they can be quite spicy. We grew some in the garden a few years ago that really brought the heat. I read somewhere that they are spicier if they are watered less. With the droughts that seem to come every summer, it makes sense.

Oh my gosh, I haven’t thought about this salad in ages! I used to make it all the time for gatherings.

Eating on vacation is complicated. It is a big part of the fun for us, but it doesn’t feel great to overdo it all the time.

Taylor Jenkins Reid has become one of my favorite authors in the last couple of years. I have read all her books and eagerly await her latest.

Have you ever watched a cat stretch? I saw Bella do an extended full-body stretch when she got up after her long midday nap. She didn’t need an article about all the benefits; she just knew it felt wonderful. 🙂

Have a good weekend.
